Orange County coverage is lacking.

Pros:Not many advantages over other carriers.
Cons:Signal strength is not good for OC, CA.

If you will use your phone mostly in Orange County (my experience is limited to Huntington Beach and the UC Irvine area), go with another carrier.

You can look at me in one of two lights: A lazy person who does not complain until he gets fed up with the status quo, or a person who will give an organization a chance.

I used to be a denizen of OC until recently, but I have been a SprintPCS customer since the summer of 1998. Back then, SprintPCS seemed to have the best deal of the cellular bunch: no contracts, free domestic long distance being the top two reasons I chose them over the others.

SprintPCS seems to have the best deals today too, but their service hasn't improved much since then.

Let me be brief: it sucks. Now, just like two years ago, the signal strength is weak or nonexistent. Two years ago, if I wanted to make a call from home, I'd have to go to the sidewalk in front of the house (not a good way to keep calls private). I still have to do that today.

And if the strength was strong enough, 9 out of 10 calls would be dropped. On the UCI campus, I dared to do a phone interview through my SprintPCS cell phone... don't do that. And if you do, don't do it with a SprintPCS phone (unless you are using another carrier, but that wouldn't work, would it?)

Now that I am in Santa Clara (N. California), I thought that my current signal (with another SprintPCS phone) was okay, but then I saw the signal strength of a Verizon phone, and I was in awe.

So I guess that having a SprintPCS phone is a good thing, since I won't worry about breaking any contracts when it comes time to switch carriers.

If you see my "love" list, I love the Nokia 6185 phone (which is exclusively in the SprintPCS family), and I love my Timeport phone, too.

Just remember one thing, ask around... more people have cell phones nowadays, and I bet you already know someone with SprintPCS service. Ask them. And if you live and work on the 405, then you won't have any problems with the SprintPCS network.
