I chose this wireless service provider because of the low cost of the cell phone itself (I only had to pay the sales tax,$10.00). Sounded like a bargain to me, and I really like a good a deal.
The family and friend plan was also a strong determining factor. You can call anyone else that is a Pacific Bell Wireless customer (cell phone to cell phone) at no extra charge. With the plan I chose I receive 120 minutes cell phone to phone and/or long distance each month with no long distance or roaming fees. You must keep track of your calls though, because additional time is at a rate of .45 cents a minute and that adds up quick!
The Nokia that they offer as part of this package "deal" has many options, is light weight, and convenient. Sounds great so far.
Problem is that at least half of these options are optional, they are built into your phone but PBW charges you more for each one that you may want to use.
For example I didn't realize my phone has a text message function until I got my phone home to play with. I was excited when I found another little goodie, only to discover that I could not access it. When I called PBW to find out what was wrong with my phone, I was told that they would be happy to hook me up with this optional feature for a mere $5.00 more a month. Well if you add it up for both phones, that is an extra $120.00 a year.
I feel that if it is built into my phone I should be able to use it in a standard package without the hidden extra fees that the salesperson did not see necessary to mention.
So when this contract is up in July I will be looking for another provider. I live in Kern County, CA. Anyone have any good suggestions?
