With Panasonic you are in good hands when it comes to making great recordings, I had a chance to use Panasonic for extensive period of time, including some lengthy trips. Not only is it compact and lightweight, it is functional. When I talk about functions and size, I am talking about all Panasonic camcorders. There is a big difference in the models that Panasonic makes. The price varies from $400 to $1200. I think $400 camcorder is the best value, it gives a great quality that can be compared to some of the best $1200 ones. You do get a smaller LCD but it is still color and with $400 PV-L550 you do have to sacrifice some functions. Fade and some others are still included it the package. For $600 Panasonic makes PV-L750 which has an amazing 4" color LCD, now that's as good as it gets to preview your recordings, instead of 18x this model has a 26x zoom, very good. PV-L750 is also generous with special effects like picture-in-picture. The adapter for a VCR is usually included, no wires, very convenient.
The most expensive Panasonic camcorder in this line-up is PV-DV600, which is called a Digital Palmcorder. It gives you even more power adn enables you to use your creativity. One example of it's amazing features is the built-in IR filter taht lets you record images in nearly comlete darkness!
It all depends on what the camcorder is intended to be used for. Ifyou are not picky, can sacrifice some special effects and want to save some money go with the cheapest $400 one.
