A Simple Solution

Written: Dec 25 '99
Pros:Quick access to flash card data, easy to use
Cons:If you don't mind spending $60, there are no cons....

The Simple Technologies USB Compact Flash Card Reader solved my digital photography uploading problems. I own a Nikon CoolPix 800, and the included serial card wasn't exactly meeting my needs. When working, it uploads images at 500 kilobytes per second. Since I wasn't getting it to work, I needed something that would let me upload photos at a quicker rate.
USB was the way to go (I love Plug and Play), and this reader allows me to upload images without the need for any software. Unlike the serial method, which had me configuring port settings till I was blue in the face, there is no need to configure anything with the compact flash card reader. You plug it in to your USB port, run the installation software (just a couple drivers) and you are set. I was loading my photos up in about 3 minutes.
At 60 dollars, the reader is an affordable solution to those having problems with slow serial downloads (or no serial downloads, as was my case with the Nikon camera.) This is another addition to the technophile's library. Go for it! It's a simple solution...
