Four years ago I bought a DSS system for my husband as a Christmas present. December 26, 1996 I went to the cable company and shut off my service forever! That was one of the best consumer decisions of my life. It seemed with Cable we were getting hit with rate increase every six months. Considering there isn't all that much great TV in the first place, I began to resent the cable company. In spite of the high price for the satellite (around $500), I knew in the long run it would pay off. The picture is better, the channels are better, and the options are better. The following year I purchased my husband the football package for his birthday. Now we subscribe to the NFL programming on Directv every year. It's great to be able to watch all the games and not just the ones in your home market. Although we've had to suffer through the lack of local stations on Directv, all that has changed and soon we will have local stations on our satellite. I would recommend Directv to anyone sick of skyrocketing cable bills. A wise investment in the long run.
