If you are in the market for a bookshelf speaker the Paradigm Studio 40 is the best speaker you can possibly buy. I wouldn't suggest putting them on stands instead, just splurge the extra, I think 300-400 dollars and get the Studio 60. I bought them...

Great Bookshelf Speaker

Pros: Neutral tone, good sound stage, great localization.
Cons: bit on the bright side, bass doesn't reach very low.

Pros: imaging, tight bass and smooth highs
Cons: doesn't go too low in bass.
I was looking to upgrade from mini-monitors to the reference
