Great product

by qpnmom , Jan 25 '00
Pros: More for your buck
Cons: can only receive on one TV
It has been about 5 months since we got our Direct TV. I cannot see how we lived without it. I will never go back to cable. There is many more channel choices. Better quality signal. We pay a little bit more than we did with cable and but we get our...

Better than Cable

by Tess131 , Mar 20 '00
Pros: direct ticket pay-per-view, on-screen guide, great channel selection
Cons: sometimes lose service in bad weather
We purchased our Direct TV satellite system about six months ago. I can't remember life without it!

I love the onscreen program guide. It is so convenient to be able to press a button and see what channel you are on, what you are watching,...

Cable? I'd rather switch than fight!

by differdrum , Jan 02 '00
Pros: Good price, great viewing, great equipment. Top of the line.
Cons: Time consuming to install, and we lose our picture in bad weather.
When my husband was recovering from heart surgery, I bought him the Hughes dish. We had Time Warner cable, but we didn't like the channel selection.
I did subscribe to one step up from basic with Direct TV.
I pay 29.99 a month, and I wouldn't...

Installation Nightmare

by davij01 , Aug 29 '00
Pros: Quick product delivery
Cons: Missed installation, poor customer service
I am still looking forward to enjoying directTV with my new Hughes dish, but DirecTV missed my installation date. They did not call to tell me they were not showing up, yet they had me stay home from work that day since they don't give appointments....

It's been great for our family...

by merri_f , Jan 24 '00
Pros: Clear picture, price of packages
Cons: Representatives, hidden charges
We decided to buy a satellite dish when the rising costs and few choices of cable finally got to us. In September of 1999 a Satellite Television company was giving away the Hughes DirecTV system for FREE, as long as you installed it yourself, and signed...

Love my dish

by SherLesa , Jan 26 '00
Pros: You get great programming for a great price.
Cons: Snow build up on the dish messes up receptions. I have added hints to stop this in my opinion. They took our Networks away from us again, so we no longer have ABC, NBC and CBS.
I purchased my dish almost 2 years ago and I love it!! I used to get cable, and I didn't like the programing. You paid a lot for nothing, with the dish, they offer different packages for your viewing needs.

What you get....

Pros: Convenience and Clarity of Picture
Cons: You may sometimes be at the mercy of the elements
My husband and I were having a hard time trying decide between cable and buying a Satellite. We allowed for cable when our home was built, figuring we could go either way when we decided. Thanksgiving we went to visit my family and stayed with my...

Satellite Unhappy

by pfct10nail , Jan 14 '00
Pros: none
Cons: a lot of hidden costs
We live in the country near a lake. We can get cable but the choices of movies were slim pickings. On my 30th birthday I bought myself a satellite system... I could not wait. When I purchased the product it sounded so easy call make an appointment...

User friendly

by rhainest , Dec 10 '99
Pros: Ease of operation
Cons: Have to reset
This Hughes system is by far the best that I've owned personally and have installed for other people. The ease of operation is second to none. By this I mean that the remote control is very user friendly. You can program it to do just about anything!...

Need more than one receiver?

by raymond689 , Dec 18 '99
Pros: Ease of installation and use
Cons: None These are excellent systems.
The Hughes system SYS-D1132 is a must have for multiple receiver operation. It has been my experience as a professional installer that the SYS-D1132 (also known as a silver dual system) is the most popular of ALL satellite systems. This system has all...

Tell the cable co. where to go!

by MurderInc , Jan 21 '00
Pros: affordability, easy to use
Cons: Dealing with an installer (sub-contractor)
After getting tired of dealing with the monopoly my local cable provider has on my area I had no choice but to tell them to hit the road(choices, rising prices etc). It was one of the best decisions I made in a long time. Although this type of system...

This thing cost me $15 !!!!

by sharkis , Jul 10 '00
Pros: easy to use, great remote
Cons: no digital audio output
Get rid of the vcr, toss the cable box (and bill), perhaps even those nasty rabbit ears....well, not really, but you'll use them a LOT less.

I've been using DirecTV for the last 5 or 6 years, and there's been no turning back for me. Back then...

As many others have written here, I too had cable(and continue to for local channels), and love the picture quality of DirecTV. The major down side is the price: 1 receiver and Eliptical dish $350, Installation to two outlets $290, monthly service...
