| backpacker360's Full Review: Dell PowerEdge 1300 |
I chose the Dell Power Edge 1300 server for deployment because of its price, configuration and warranty. I have deployed three Dell Power Edge 1300 servers now and have been very pleased, as have my customers. In each instance, my customer was moving up from a workgroup environment to a file server for the first time and I would be remiss if I didn't say that price was important. Deployment is easy with clear no nonsense instructions, helpful phone numbers, and an option to have the O/S pre-installed. I chose Microsoft's Back office Small Business Server suite as the operating system to complement the package, which I recommended for this unit. In only one instance did I have a hardware failure and Dell's response was swift and completely satisfactory. My first server installation is now three years old and still going strong. Each runs a host of software which includes but is not limited to, Exchange, IIS, NT Server, SQL Server and numerous other applications. Bottom line. If you are looking for an entry level file server that includes incredible technical support, a terrific warranty and ease of deployment, then look no further. I would not recommend it for a network with over 25 clients though. This is strictly entry level. A definite bargain. My one complaint is that Dell ships them with a small primary partition. This shouldn't affect the quality of the products service though. I highly recommend this unit for small LAN applications.
