Details: This sweet, bubbly wine from the Piemonte region of Italy has a long history, and is usually served with desserts. Created for all sweet, lightly sparkling wines, this glass serves to accentuate their acidity and thus balance their sweetness. It is also shaped so as to intensify their mousse, or effervescence. The wide, open shape of this glass is not recommended for dry champagnes, since it does not show their bouquet. This is a glass designed for sipping and this produces a slight under-pressure on the surface of the wine which results in carbon dioxide forming a covering of foam on the palate. The glass tends to make dry sparkling wines taste bland and emphasise their marked acidity, thus doing nothing to enhance their quality.
