Wine.comJan 15 '00 (Updated Apr 08 '00) Write an essay on this topic.I have a credit card that allows me to rack up points and trade them in for online gift certificates. I chose to get a twenty dollar gift certificate from wine.com. I bought two bottle of cab. sav. without adding to my credit card # to cover the cost. Here is my story. I went through their web pages looking for the most bang for my buck. While they do have section for the economical wine enthusiast, I must say that you can do better for yourself or a friend elsewhere. While you can order all types of wines, wine accessories, and gift baskets. There is a lot wrong with buying wine online. One must be prepared to wait about two weeks, at the earliest, to receive their wine through the mail. Due to government regulations there is a hold up on sending alcoholic beverages in the mail. After waiting for two+ weeks, you must greet the Airborne Express man at the door. You must provide a signature and proof of age, the delivery person can't leave your bottles with a neighbor or on your doorstep. My 53 year-old dad was asked to show his id for proof of age. While I love my dad, I think we could both agree he looks nowhere near 21, 31, or even... well you get the idea. So you gotta stay at home and wait around or have a gift recipient who works out of his/her house. I know what the different wines are and even know some brands. However, the brands I recognized as reasonable in the store were nowhere to be found as this place caters to the deep pocketed. If you want a cheap wine, hit a wine store or in my case, I get the best deals and selection at the New Hampshire State Liquor Store, where the best prices are to be found, sorry duty-free shops. If you want to send wine to a friend, buy him some and wrap it in bubble wrap, for the prices are high, the service is slow, and shipping is costly too at wine.com. |
