A Bridal Shower with a Twist!

I was a bridesmaid for a college roommate a year ago. She was not conventional and didn't want a "typical" bridal shower. She didn't want a bunch of girls sitting around eating and playing stupid games. :-) So I had to get creative in what type of 'bridal' shower to throw for her. Her theme was grapes and wine.
I decided to throw a Couples Wedding Shower and Wine Social. The invitations asked everyone to bring a bottle of wine to share. I had all the bottles open, with fresh glasses for each type of wine, and I had food that compliments any wine: cheeses, crackers, and fruit. It was a huge success! The couples had a nice time at my wine tasting - that was really a Wedding Shower with a Twist!
What made this event successful:
1. Invitations with the theme of grapes on them.
2. Asking everyone to bring a bottle of wine to share - we ended up with many different varieties and wineries.
3. Having a table area all set up and having extra wine glasses for all the different types of wine.
4. The food served complimented the wine.
5. The time of the event was 3 - 5 pm on a Saturday summer afternoon. Not too hot and it was held outdoors.
