Pros: strong, good flavor
Cons: on the heavy side, calorie-wise
The Bottom Line: This was a staple when I lived in Boulder. Rumor has it that it has gone downhill since becoming popular, however.

| martytdx's Full Review: Fat Tire Amber Ale Belgium 22oz. |
When I first moved to Boulder, CO, I hadn't even sat down in Old Chicago (the local bar that my friend directed me to) before there was a beer in my hand. I paused (only momentarily) to take a look at this dark brown liquid in front of me, then took a sip.
It was too cold to get a really good taste at first, plus I had to sit down, so I took a few moments before I tried it again. I asked the name, and it took several attempts for me to get a handle that it was really called 'Fat Tire' which to me brought up visions of 'love handles' more so than mountain bikes (as a note, it deserves it both ways - rumor has it at 600 calories a glass. Best darn diet-breaker I ever had).
Fat Tire is a heavier beer, with alternating sweetness and a touch of hoppiness. Over time, the hoppiness has been becoming more prevalent in it, although not to a point where it affects the enjoyment of it. It's a stronger beer, so if you are out in CO visiting, enjoy them slowly. It's also a beer that will fill you up quickly if you try to down them, so take the time to enjoy it.
Fat Tire is everyone in Colorado and is gaining popularity in the surrounding states. If a bar is going to have any microbrew on tap, the chances are the the marketing geniuses at New Belgium have gotten Fat Tire there. Pick yourself up a glass and try it. Now if I could only get it out east...
