Ahh yes...Anchor Steam. Once available only on the "gold coast", now you can find this beer fairly easily. Truly, when I use to wait tables at a four-star restaurant (in Norfolk, VA), we proudly boasted that we were the only place in the city where one could savor an Anchor Steam beer. It's dark and robust without being bitter and goes particularly well with both gourmet sandwiches and/or a well prepared meal. Once you try it, you will tend to become rather loyal to it not only for the taste but of course for the novelty....few know about it!
It tends to be rather expensive at about 7 bucks a six pack....bottles, of course. And although it is gaining some shelf space, it may still be hard to come by in some markets and restaurants. If you are looking for a more mainstream comparison, I would align it with a Sam Adams perhaps.
