I Saw You Standing Alone...
I am simply in love with Blue Moon Pale Ale. I discovered it in Delaware three years ago, and have been a loyal fan ever since. Always a sucker for a good microbrew, Blue Moon and I fell in love at first right. With it's deliciously airy flavor, Blue Moon has quickly become my favorite pale ale, a category of beer that is often sadly overlooked...
Tasting Notes
Like all superior pale ales, Blue Moon has a deliciously hoppy body and a crisp bite on the tongue. The nose is that of lemon rinds, and the tastinf follows through with a light citrus flavor that cleanses and refreshes the palate. The finish is clear and refreshing, with no bitter hop aftertaste. Blue Moon is a humble pale ale, neither overbearing or pretentious, an extremely subtle taste that reveals a vast complexity of being to my palate...
Serving Notes
It's not a bit filling, and as such makes the perfect addition to any meal, but it does better with lighter foods(the same items you would drink white wine with). My best suggestion is to try and pair it with subtle dishes that would appreciate a kiss of citrus. Grilled shrimp comes to mind, as does poached fish and even a lightly spiced chicken breast. Chicken Ceasar would be divine!
A Defense of Blue Moon
In a previous review, a user described the beer as a "skunky microbrew" as he tore it apart. This is mistaken for two reasons. First, let me assure you as a regular drinker of this beer that it does not have an unpleasant or bitter aftertaste. The reason that jaschanb1's beer tasted so bad probably was because it was SKUNKY, the fault of bad refrigeration and not the brewer. Secondly, microbrew is not a dirty word that should be use to criticize a beer. It is the distinctive and creative character of the microbrew that makes it so great. To have a microbrew flavor is a wonderful thing, because it means that you're in for a treat outside the ordinary.
Pricing
One defining factor in who will drink this beer is it's price. At over 7 dollars a sixpack, this is not made for chugging or for stocking parties. Instead, it is an occasional treat that begs to be slowly savored and appreciated. For those who enjoy fine beer and don't mind paying extra for it, Blue Moon Pale Ale is a rare and worthwhile find that is becoming more and more common in package stores.
The Final Verdict
Are you guys kidding me? If you love pale ales and/or citrus beers, than Blue Moon Pale Ale is a godsend for you. Made just for sweltering summer nights, I can't recommend this product highly enough...
