I think the first time I ever tried Alize was somewhere in the middle of my high school years. We just won't tell anyone about that! Normally, I am a beer drinker and could care less for fruity, mixed drinks that tend to give me heartburn or some other sort of sick feeling. But, and this probably sounds pretty fruity on its own, I just had to try Alize because I had heard things about it in a bunch of rap songs. Hey, I guess the reasoning is a little stupid, but I WAS in high school and I'm sure the makers of Alize aren't upset about the extra marketing. However, after my junior prom and my first experience with Alize, I was hooked. I also believe I was laid out on the floor pretty quickly. ;)
Alize is a great drink for marketing simply because it can appeal to so many people. It's marketed as a somewhat upper class drink, but the price isn't so exorbitant that only the rich can afford it. Now, this isn't to say that it's cheap. The Epinions price is somewhere around $16, but in my area I've found it to be closer to $18 a bottle, with prices steadily increasing per ounce as the bottle gets smaller. So, it can be enjoyed by a wide income bracket, but it also appeals to many other different types of people as well. While I lived in Atlanta, and heard about it the first time through a rap song, I have also found that many people in somewhat rural Tennessee where I am now, enjoy it as well. And I'm not talking about people who might have heard about it through a rap song, but people who would probably rather die than have to listen to anything other than country music. Inner city or rural Tennessee, this drink can appeal to anyone.
Now, I am sure that Alize would make a wonderful drink for any season, but it always seems that I end up drinking it most during the spring and summer. Bright and vibrant, it doesn't seem like a drink made for the drearier months of the year. Also, fall and winter are football season, and these times were made for beer or Jack, not a fruit drink. OK, I guess you could drink it before a game, but the price is a little high for something you're just going to use to get trashed. So, I would probably recommend this drink for lazy summer days around the house, or parties with close friends. It definitely isn't for the wilder events, although it does pack quite a wallop.
I must admit, the strength of Alize shocked me a little bit when I first tried it. I was expecting some little aristocratic drink, with little more than a bit of alcohol added for flavor. But wow, what I really didn't expect was a fruit drink that packed the punch of Cisco or MD 2/20. Not to say that this drink is in any way comparable to these two types of filth, but the alcohol punch is surprising. I think the alcohol content is only somewhere around 17%, but it seems to do a little more damage than the alcohol content would make you think. I feel the same way when I drink malt liquor versus beer. I know the alcohol content isn't that much different, but the aftershock is quite a bit stronger. And the great thing is that Alize maintains a great flavor while still remaining strong. A lot of times taste is traded in for sheer alcohol content as is the case with many of the harder liquors.
And they wanted a part about what types of food to eat with Alize. Well, I honestly wouldn't know as I've never actually sat down and had Alize with a meal. Heck, I don't think I've ever eaten anything at the same time with this drink. Hey, maybe that's the reason it always seems to knock me for such a loop. I'll have to check on that one and get back to you! And they want to know what flavors are predominant in this drink? Well, the bottle says passion fruit and cognac, so that's what I guess we'll have to go with. I must say that I've never actually had a passion fruit by itself, so I'll have to go with what the manufacturers say on this one.
So, what makes this drink so special? I guess I would say that Alize is a drink, that while fruity, doesn't give off any of the same aura as your regular fruit drink. It really is a great drink for everyone. I know how it is. I know a lot of guys who like these types of drinks, but are honestly just not secure enough with themselves to drink them around other people. I guess they feel it makes them less manly if they have a drink with fruit in it, rather than just straight liquor. But with Alize, nothing is lost. I guess the only way to put it, would be to say that Alize just looks....cool, or at least as "tough" as a fruit drink can look. Hey, if rappers drink it, you can't go wrong, because most of the guys I know aren't near as tough as most rappers at least claim to be. So, it's good for both sexes, which can't be said for a lot of drinks on the market today.
And don't be fooled as to which type of Alize to buy. There's an orange and a red bottle, with the orange being the original passion fruit and cognac. The red bottle is named Red Passion or something similar, and is a piece of junk they came out with a couple of years ago to back up the already extremely popular original. About the only thing similar between these two is the alcohol content. Stick with the original. With the Red Passion you lose all of the wonderfully unique flavor that comes with the original.
This is definitely a drink to check out if you're looking for some middle ground between straight hard liquor, and beer. It is great for every occasion, but is especially good for those lazy summer days, when you have nothing better to do than kick back in the lawn chair. Or, if you're lucky enough to have a pool, I couldn't think of a better drink to sip while laying out in the sun. And of course, it's always a party favorite which can appeal to an extremely varied group of people. Great taste and an average price make Alize a wonderful all around drink for everyone.
