La Grande Dame

This is a memorable wine simply because of it's quality. If you are looking to splurge a bit on a nice champagne try a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin La Grande Dame.
I recently had a bottle from 1990 and it was truely a taste explosion. The rich flavors of the grape are not lost in the bubbles as is so often the case of lesser sparkling wines.
This wine should cast you around 70-80 dollars and is worth every penny.
It is a Brut and is appropriatly dry with out sticking to the back of your throat on the way down. It goes well with any of the traditional champagne foods, but is bold enough to stand up to a wider range of foods than some of its competetors. Try it with your meal instead of before or after as is so typical. Wine is meant to be paired with food and this is also true of champagne. Go for it have that duck breast or pork tenderloin with this wine you will not be disapointed.
