Wine Dinner Tips
Feb 03 '00
It seems that with the start of a new millenium wine dinners are popping up all over creation. Not only do most wine dinners provide excellent wine and meals they also offer many social benefits as well.
I have been in the hospitality industry for seven years. These are a few tips to help you put on your own wine dinner in the privacy of your home.
My first advice would be to go to your local wine store and study a little. This will come in handy when people start to grill you about wine. Seeing that most people are not wine "gurus" the only wines they know of, are the ones they see when they are buying a gallon of "Blush".
Pay attention to the time of year. I tend to do light white wines in the summer and hearty reds in the winter. Pick out five bottles of wine. Start light and finish sweet,I always say. Take your wine home. Pull out all of your cookbooks and start looking for exciting matches to your wine selections.
I have found that it is much easier to pick the wine first. Don't be afraid to do something different and go crazy. Always make sure that you have a entree that everyone will enjoy.
Five courses, Five bottles of wine. You will have five guests and yourself. A bottle of wine yields about five to six glasses of wine. Serve the glass of wine followed by the course. Make sure to talk about each wine and course and don't be afraid to say what you really think or just,"I don't know". This a learning experience for all even yourself. Invite friends put on some music and enjoy yourself.
