I have a cousin in the Pacific NW who sends unusual wines (rhubarb, boysenberry, etc.) every Christmas. Never had the dandelion though. You got darned curious now.
The transcribed comments from your tasting group help to convey a sense of the experience!

I remember Dandelion wine (Reply to this comment)

My parents used to make it when I was younger. I forgot all about it. Thanks for the info on where to get it but I don't think they can ship to Arizona.

Do not worry about competition: booze, like music, is a language I do not speak, but almost understand when it is spoken...
Thanks for your kind words.

Excellent job! I couldn't have done better myself. You should write more of these...um wait, nevermind...I sure don't need the competition.
As a matter of fact...boo, hiss...this sucked!!

. . . I'm a big fan of the Honey wine Eritrean/Ethiopean restaurants provide. Any idea if this Iowa place sells that too?
I'm happy to hear your finals went well, and that other people are reading Bust too.
Peace.

Ah! Rememberances of all things Dandy! (Reply to this comment)
by ed_grover
I don't drink anymore, but I remember having had some dandelion wine as a young man when I visited friends in the country early one spring.
Our experience was much like yours (including all the sipping and glugging noises) and we went on to have a dandelion salad picked right from the lawn (it was a warm March in Wisconsin) with our broiled chicken. Yum!
Nice review and nice memories.

You want uric acid? Try some sweat one humid day.
Ah yes, the wonderful world of programming... I remember tinkering one spring with spring with some graphical programming language and getting nowhere, but had the same experience as you.
Congrats on your work. Enjoy the trip thru the Elysian summer!... ...t-žoo

Did you hear the mayhem, screams, and swarms of helicopters in the east? Did you see mobs of terrified, hair-rending, possesion- carrying evacuees running for their lives?
Yeah, well that was the naked-dancing day...

Cindy, Jeremiah, Natalie: Thanks a million for your best wishes. Though this is my second (third?) go-round on the academic thing, I have never felt this free before -- and I still have to work full-time!

Gaaaack! What a thought! On the other hand, the addition of a little (uric) acide MIGHT improve the flavor...

your epinion again, as always! Sorry I haven't been able to read your new ones lately, but it's not my fault. My internet is down:( My grandma is being nice enough to let me use her computer for a little bit. I hope I can read all your other new epinions really soon!
Best wishes,

Did you run naked through the fields of academia after drinking several glasses of the wine, or was it in preparation?

As Cliff Richard sings...'Con - gra - du - lations.' etc. etc. (ad lib to fade).
Now enjoy your summer. I think I'll have to skip on the Dandelion Wine, though - I prefer something more akin to vinegar!

so I couldn't resist the review. It made me ROFL! However, I will be more cautiousl while walking through the fields on campus from now on...
I'm glad you're back- hopefully, you'll take time to write many new opinions over the summer, as I'm looking forward to reading more by you.

Watch out for the homemade stuff (Reply to this comment)
by LeopoldBloom32
I once sampled some dandelion wine made by an elderly local in Wales. It had the character you describe, but I'm certain that it was stronger. The strength may have come from the field that the flowers were harvested in-- I spent the morning reading in the field in question, and observed people walking their dogs, which invariably relieved themselves on the dandelions.
I'm not suggesting that this is the secret to good dandelion wine, but people drinking homemade wine might want to consider the source.
Great review!

The Bobster (my spouse) said I was way too harsh in my review. But I stand by my early assertion: if you (secretly) love cough syrup, this is the stuff for you!

Re: Celebration time ! Woo Hoo! (Reply to this comment)
by juliette
Oh, no! Does this mean I have to find, drink and review elderberry wine, too? Ah, the hardship! Thanks for the congrats. Learning to program is weird -- in business, if you turn in a non-working project, you have failed completely.
But in both of the programming courses I have taken so far, you can turn in a program THAT DOESN'T RUN (despite your having spent 50-60 hours on it) and still get 72/75 pts or whatever. Shocks me every time.
Thanks again.

An "A" -- good for you, you little braggert! And you said you couldn't (mumble, what was it she said she couldn't do) uh, Visi Basic Code something, yeah, that must be it! And you said you couldn't do that!
Somehow, after getting to know you, it does seem that a bottle of $5.99 Dandelion Wine was an appropriately bohemian way to celebrate. Especially when the wine was crying out for an Epinion.
Glad you are free, my dear. Talk to you soon!
Andrea
who was going to throw in a witty Elton John reference until she realized it was Elderberry wine he sang about, not Dandelion Wine...sigh
