Pike Brewing Co. is widely considered to be one of the best breweries in the American craft beer industry. From my experience I am not about to disagree.

When you pour this beer you find deep amber and light copper colors filling your glass. It is topped with a lush and creamy light tan colored head. In the aroma you get a faint hint of malt and smokiness balanced with mild floral notes and hints of alcohol. In the taste you get a full bodied mouth feel of malt sweetness immediately followed by a peat smokiness. This is complimented with just the right amount of bitterness, a very faint herbal hop character, and a slight alcohol warming. Little hop aroma is detected which is what you want in a strong Scotch ale.


Pike Kilt Lifter is an excellent example of a strong Scotch ale. It is perfectly balanced, complex, and very enjoyable to drink. It could be considered to be a little light for a strong Scotch ale but that does not detract anything from this beer. Pike Kilt Lifter is one fine beer. I would rather sip this beer with no food but it could go good with a food that is not very filling.
