Pros: Ease of Application, Interest Rates, Web Site access Cons: none
Two years ago, I received a mailing that suggested that I look into refinancing my home with country-wide. I had a First with Atlantic Mortgage and a second with my Credit Union. I responded to the add and within days I received a package to complete for...

Pros: Wonderfully helpful and friendly Cons: Haven't run into any yet
Let me start by saying I bought a home years ago during my first marriage with no problems so this experience has been life altering. My fiance and I decided to buy a home. We were tired of paying rent with nothing to show for it. We found a home in a...

I have yet another terrible experience to relate with Countrywide. I recently used them for my home loan b/c they had a relationship with my real estate broker (The Group in Fort Collins, whom I also fault for recommending the Countrywide agent to us). ...

Pros: Ok rates, were willing to finance a manufactured home Cons: Worst customer service I have ever encountered in my life
Unfortunately I ran into problems with Countrywide when I tried to make two payments by check that equaled the total monthly payment. The funds weren't applied, or were applied incorrectly and I was charged late fees. It took several months of ...

Pros: Friendly selling agent Cons: Many, confusing closing, messy paperwork, terrible service, screwed up statements, terrible communication
Just off the phone with my friendly Countrywide phone rep. THe person who sold me the mortgage on our second home is nice enough, and has tried at times, but in general, the service at this group is terrible. I have had one problem after another. ...

Countrywide Mortgage actively engages in discrimination against
the disabled with regard to Fannie Mae loan programs. This writer was recently denied access to a program proffered by fannie mae for the disabled eventhough the folks at fannie mae...

Pros: Personal service during application process Cons: Lack of same service long term
Four years ago when looking for a mortgage company, I was looking for a company that would treat me like a person, not just another number. CountryWide is advertised as just that. The person you deal with approves your mortgage, no middleman. It...

Our loan servicer...

Pros: Nice at first Cons: Don't deliver, false promises, misleading statements.
I went to Countrywide because of a recommendation. The girl was very nice to deal with but follow up on the loan was poor and my concerns that I made clear to the rep. were not realized. Three weeks went by and all of the paperwork was done but someone...

Pros: Nothing at all! Cons: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. UNALBE TO ANSWER THEIR PHONE. ALWAYS GETTING VOICE MAIL. UNRELIABLE!

Go Elsewhere to ReFi
by hicory ,Nov 16 '03
Pros: maintained as an existing customer - but not worth it Cons: long wait time (6 months to refi), poor communication frequency, inaccurate information conveyed.
Don't use Countrywide to refi an existing mortgage. Our experience as an existing Countrywide customer to refi: 6 months (!) - not kidding. I experienced poor communication (when communication occurred) with the Temecula, CA office and was very displeased with their "service" to us especially as an existing customer. A telephone receptionist was able to shake the process alive again when it seemed to be dead. Once I was able to get a name and number of the person assigned to our account, communications improved, but it remained a challenge to get good, consistent, correct information. Even at the very end, we were getting wrong information and mixed communication between the Temecula office and the title company on how much was due, and how much our new payments would be. We fluctuated from $20 to $200 a month savings in between phone calls in a matter of days. We never got anything in writing until the final papers. The long wait was not worth it and will keep our eyes open for lower rates and plan to refi with another company as soon as practical.

AVOID COUNTRYWIDE AT ALL COST!
by herman2p ,Nov 03 '03
Pros: None -incompetent and dishonest Cons: worst customer service on the planet
Countrywide has incorrectly credited my payments. I have not been credited for roughly $3000.00 in payments. I have called 4 times and written 3 letters and spent countless hours. Each time the countrywide representative goes through my entire payment history, realizes their mistake and promises to correct it. Then it gets worse, the error just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I do not know what to do.....AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To add insult to injury, they are charging me interest on money I paid them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Invade privacy, confiscate funds
by victim1947 ,Jul 08 '08
Pros: None Cons: invasive, confiscatory
On May 31, 2008, Countrywide notified me that they had renewed my certificate of deposit for 12 months. On July 7, I requested the balance of $16,500. Countrywide declined to provide the balance as of May 31 and deducted $250 from my own funds to close out the CD.
In addition, they insisted on me verifying a host of information not provided by me to verify I was who I said I was. Information about my son, who has not lived with me or appeared on my tax return for 15 years. They reeled off addresses where I had lived in 30 years ago. Countrywide should limit themselves to information provided with the funds for deposit to verify identity.

I had a GREAT experience!
by gtsb ,Apr 23 '08
Pros: Great communication, easily done over phone, someone sent to my house to close. Cons: None
We just refinanced at the end of February. We were already financed with Countrywide, but with someone else for our Home Equity. We rolled everything together and paid off some other bills. We are in Maryland and dealt with Darnell. Everything was done over the phone and someone was sent to our house to close within 6-7 days. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat!
