It Exists and More Won't WorkApr 01 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Many of us do not realize that we already have a flat tax in operation. It is the money that is automatically taken from most of our paychecks for Social Security. Those who have put into this dubious promise of the government should benefit, but I do think it would be best to get rid of it in time. We do not need our government to secure our financial future. Making our income tax a flat tax is foolhardy and unworkable. What would the flat tax be on? You could have one business man who made 50,000 dollars and another who made the same but had more business related expenses. To tax the businessman who incurred business expenses the same as one who had little to no expenses would be highly unfair. To begin with the federal income tax is unconstitutional. It was declared so by the Supreme Court in the late 1800s. Some think that since the 16th Amendment was passed that the government could legally tax directly our wages. This is a fraud that the U.S. Government has been successfully playing on its citizens since the introduction of the Victory Tax during World War II. There are some who would like to get rid of direct taxes on our wages by having a national sales tax. Though I have some misgivings about this, at least with this indirect tax our privacy would be returned and we could not be compelled to be witnesses against ourselves. Next time you read a 1040 you will see that you give up many personal things about yourself and at the bottom you are signing your name under penalty of perjury. One warning I found interesting when I read some of the Federalist Papers was the one given by Hamilton: "When a government taxes directly the wages of it citizens it will destroy the nation."  |
