My wife is a mortgage processor for subsidiary of Synovus Mortgage (and competition to Countrywide). Needless to say, she is very familiar with the ins and outs of the mortgage process. We were very fortunate to have her knowledge on our side when we wanted to buy our first home. Being that she was in the business, she knew who had the best service, prices, and features. She wanted us to go to Countrywide.
For the first time home buyer... getting a mortgage is more intrusive than a full body cavity search. If you have EVER had a credit problem, expect the inquisition to begin. I had to account for every financial mis-deed and error I ever made. That fact is true for any mortgage company. They all look at your financial history with a fine tooth comb, and will inquire on any questionable item in your history. But rest assured, everyone goes through it.
Countrywide provided to us a very professional and knowledgeable staff. Courteous reception upon every visit, and they were very polite to answer any and all questions. They truly wanted to make a loan for us. And their professional approach made us feel like we were their only customer. It was great. It was a hometown company feel, with the resources of a Nationwide company. Because they are so large, they are able to keep prices low, and they do not "sell" your mortgage. They service almost all of their own loans, so we don't have to worry about some other company taking over our loan two or three times during the term of our loan. (It happens all the time to a lot of other companies).
And they are not likely to go out of business any time soon.
So take it from the competition... Go get a loan at Countrywide. Also, a lesser known fact... you can get Frequent Flier miles when you get a mortgage. Check it out!
