| mnegrin's Full Review: Quote.com's IPO Edge |
Quote.com has an excellent IPO product. All of the basics are there from filing date to filing price. But there is much more. Graphs on a relative -5 to 5 scale rate each company that has recently gone public. Information on sentiment factor ratings with share turnover and key industry buys are at your finger tips. You can also find fundamental factor ratings with price to book ratio, prior return, high-low range to price and accumulation to distribution information all on the same page. The best part is that since all of these components are scaled from -5 to 5, you don't have to really understand what all of this information means. Rather, it provides for you a way to compare companies on a relative scale. We all know Etoys, Amazon, Free Markets, etc. had great IPO success. So now you can compare other companies against ones with proven success to make your buys. I like the ability to gauge a relatively unknown company against another successful and reputable counterpart.
The best part of the site is the way it categorizes the information. You can search by industry, by filing date, etc., or simply get an index listing of all recent IPO's. This allows for unlimited comparison measures and a way to manageably sort a lot of data. The upcoming IPO center is arranged in a similar manner and has equally good navigational tools and information. There is even in depth information on underwriters! I haven't even seen all they have to offer, and I think in a lifetime, I probably couldn't get to it all. The up side, is that whatever you do want to find is fairly easy to locate.
My one criticism is that I don't know who is rating these companies. The relative comparison helps because it allows you to see that quote was on the money (no pun intended) for many companies, but I'd feel better if I knew they were getting their information from a brokerage house as opposed to some random quote.com analysts. But, I guess, if they're right, who cares who they work for. And so far, I have found 100% reliable data.
