Four years ago when looking for a mortgage company, I was looking for a company that would treat me like a person, not just another number. CountryWide is advertised as just that. The person you deal with approves your mortgage, no middleman. It appears that is somewhat correct during the application process. However, later on when you need service, try to find someone to help. About two years into owning my home, our town taxes went down substantially and I contacted Countrywide to find out how that would affect my mortgage payment (as we had our taxes built into our mortgage) First of all, the person I worked with in getting the loan no longer handles the mortgage issues once they have closed. Secondly, it seemed like nobody had an answer for me. I was finally told that my payment would stay the same and it would all work out in the wash. Not an acceptable answer for me. The service one receives after the closing is just as important as the service in getting the mortgage in the first place. Think twice if your looking to be treated as more than just a number.
