| Starrrynit's Full Review: MsMoney.com |
When I came across the web site MsMoney.com, I pretty much figured that it would be more of the same silly nonsense found on Women's Financial sites.
The last few websites that I reviewed under the Epinions category "Women & Investing" have been incredibly substandard. Many of these websites are marketed towards women that are just starting to peruse the subject of Finance and haven't really had their feet wet yet.
My favorite things to pick on about these sites is the overuse of pink, the cosmetic ads <<yawn>>, and the financial horoscopes to help women with their financial decisions.
Needless to say, I have hot been pleased with what I have seen...until now.
Ms. Money, as far as I saw, does not have any pink (purple and green are the logo's colors) nor a "Financial Planner's Horoscope" either. The site is laid out on a white background that is really very easy on the eyes. It is not flashy or overly crowded with silly pictures (another pet peeve of mine... these people think that women have to have lots and lots of graphics to look at...grrrr). The pages, therefore, load up really quickly and are easy to navigate.
Within the site, I found the "Tip of the Day", which is a weekly compilation of financial ideas such as "Buying your first home" and "Getting a new rate on your mortgage". With each monetary idea they list, a link to further one's knowledge on the subject is provided.
There is also a "Success Story" article. This is a personal essay written by a woman who has, in her own way, become a success. The writer documents HOW she achieved her goals as well. Pretty inspiring, I'd say. I really like to read about other's successful journey and how they handled the bumps in the road along the way.
What is different from other "Women" financial websites is that there are many different subjects covered on their home page. There is A LOT to look through on this site. Articles I found interesting was about how money affects relationships, who is looking at your credit reports, and life insurance policy facts.
Tax and inheritance planning is covered. Asset allocation and Values/Goal affirmation are intermingled too. Pretty cool so far, huh?
In addition, there is the standard message boards, chat rooms, and "ask the expert" kind of stuff. As usual, it is underused. But, it seems that this is a new site and may not have a lot of traffic yet.
There really isn't anything that isn't covered on the "Male" websites, but it is a wonderful place for a woman to start out. Those seasoned in finance can also find new things to learn on Ms. Money as well.
If Ms. Money remembers to stay focused on helping women FINANCIALLY instead of COSMETICALLY they will attract many female followers in the future.
