Norwest, now a part of Wells Fargo, has been my bank for almost ten years. I’ve always been able to rely on them for great service, so when the time came for me to secure a home loan I didn’t think twice about going to them. The transition to becoming Wells Fargo was already underway when I visited my loan officer two months ago, but I wasn’t worried. The people I would be dealing with were all old Norwest people.
Since I went the FHA route for my first house, my interest rate was already determined. There was no reason to shop around for a better rate because I wouldn’t find one. My main concern was getting personalized service, which the people at Wells Fargo provided me.
The loan process is basically the same for all of us. You sign 16,000 papers until carpel tunnel syndrome is achieved. But I wanted my loan officer to patiently and thoroughly answer my myriad of questions about the loan process. And she surpassed my expectations. I tend to be a very demanding consumer and I have no qualms about asking minute questions that would drive some people nuts. She explained everything to me and actually tolerated my constant “But why [fill in the blank]?” What can I say? I question everything, especially when my money is involved!
I am a stickler for returning voice mail messages promptly. There is no better way to get on my bad side than to ignore my request for a return phone call. My loan officer consistently returned my calls within an hour, and I was duly impressed by that attention to great customer service.
Granted, I’m sure that I won the lottery by getting my particular loan officer. Not every customer service person within Wells Fargo can be as great as she was, but overall I recommend using Wells Fargo to secure your home loan. I found the entire process to be extremely pain-free and stress-free.
