Oh how I wish!!!Feb 09 '00 Write an essay on this topic.A flat tax, what a wonderful idea. I have been harping and yelling for this for years and I hope one day it comes to light. Have you ever really thought about taxes. You buy a new car and pay taxes on it. Then you pay personal property taxes every year to have it, taxes to put gas in it, taxes to have maintenance on it, taxes to drive on the roads, taxes to license it. This, of course, is after they take a chunk of your paycheck for taxes. A flat tax would take care of so many issues and eliminate the need for year end tax issues, audits and total chaos for many people. It would be better off for our economy and our lives to have a flat tax that everyone pays. No tax deductions, no year-end tax returns, no anything. Just take 10 - 20 percent of your salary and that is that. Regardless of how little or much you make and no matter who you are. Pro's: 1. Elimination of a huge amount of overpaid government workers who do nothing but audit taxes 2. Everyone pays the same rate 3. Elimination of constant changes and wasted time by Congress making things worse for the average American 4. Flat tax could eliminate other taxes such as used car tax, gasoline tax, personal property tax, etc etc etc. 5. Figuratively more money in the system for schools, roads and the economy Con's: 1. What would Congress have to talk about? 2. Loss of jobs for people who do nothing but make sure taxes get paid If we ever get the chance to vote for a flat tax, I will do it in a split second. Considering I am single and pay 33% tax rates, it would be a benefit to me. Why should I pay so much for schools, education and roads when I don't have kids????  |
