Never say never...Apr 17 '00 Write an essay on this topic. One thing I have learned about credit (being a consumer lender) is that you can never say never, " I would never let my credit go bad!", "I would never pay an interest charge on a credit card", blah, blah blah. As the bumper sticker says!@#$% happens, and you never know when something will happen!! If you find yourself with a credit problem, you need to do the following things-- 1) get a copy of a credit report and go over it, if you do not understand it, make an appointment with someone at your local bank who is able to help you. If you have been turned down for credit you can get a copy of one for free and with most agencies you can get one copy free/year. 2) Make sure the person with bad credit is you. I cannot tell you how many times something has been reported on the wrong person. 3) Once you know it is you contact the company and make amends (payment plan or whatever it takes!) 4) sign up for a dept store credit card (sears jcpenney etc) purchase something (inexpensive) and do not pay it off all it once. After all you are trying to re-establish a paying history. Make payments on it (on time) 5) If you cannot qualify for a "card" get a cd secured loan from your local bank and make payments on it. |
