secured to save your credit

I admit, I am one of those with bad credit in my past. Sigh, woe is me. In the days of my ahem, youth, I didn't make enough money to pay all my bills, I was more concerned with putting food into my mouth then paying college loans, and I really just didn't care. It was only a piece of paper asking for money, after all. I didn't know... which meant that I didn't know I should care.

I finally decided to straighten out my credit for good, when, surprize surprize, I needed to borrow money and couldn't. I got a secured loan... my parents put up the money, it sat in a bank account, and I paid the money to the bank. If it wasn't for my parents helping me, I wouldn't have been able to get the money. Done through the bank, yes I had to pay interest, but it was a short term loan and it helped me improve my credit.

About a year or so after that, I decided I wanted a credit card again. Surrprize, surprize! No one offered me a credit card. I went back to the bank, put up my own deposit money, plus interest & fees, and got myself a credit card. After two years, I am finally establishing good credit, and my fiance & I are buying a condo in the next month or so. I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help of some secured loans & credit card. I still have my secured credit card, by the way.
