I am a Finance major and thus have had to do a lot of research in all types of financial matters. SmartMoney.com covers just about every end of the financial spectrum. It's quick, it's reliable, and it's all there right in front of you.
For those of you who like to track your portfolio, this site offers one of the best portfolio trackers. It shows your daily gains and losses (dollar-wise and percentage-wise), your total gains and losses ($ and %), and gives you any warnings or news that you request. There is a place to include dividends and cash reserves for your portfolio. Therefore, your portfolio includes all your assets, not just your stocks.
There is plenty of good information on this site for doing stock research. You can get most of this information anywhere, but SmartMoney makes it easy to find. Also, they offer stockpicks that usually turn out to be profitable. However, you shouldn't just buy a stock because it is recommended on a web site or in a magazine. A stock pick can be a starting point, but you should still do your research to make sure it meets your needs and risk tolerance levels.
The "Stock Watch" pop-up screen is also useful for those of you that like updated quotes throughout the day. You can formulate your own list, and it will appear in a small window on your screen. These stocks to watch automatically update at a set interval (that you choose). It also shows recent market news at the bottom of your stock tracker.
There is also some information of the site that is useful, but hard to understand. The market map can be a little confusing, and overall it's not that useful of a tool. SmartMoney is the kind of site that would be good to use as a start page for the financial guru, or keep it bookmarked to track your portfolio.
