| demosthenes's Full Review: Motley Fool |
The Motley Fool site has been receiving a lot of press during the last year, much of it praising the Virginia-based financial website for it's insight and analysis as well as the writing and member contributions (over 2 million people visit every month).
For any first-time investors, the site is great. I steered my mother here when she was getting interested in investing. The site is very easy to navigate and use for someone not that comfortable with a computer and the internet. But don't let that deter you if you are a webhead because you don't want to miss out on some of the soundest financial advice around.
When the Gardner brothers started the site in 1993, they promoted heavily that the average person was capable of investing for eventual financial gain as long as he was willing to learn the basics and stay educated. On their site, they evangelize to each newcomer that -
1) You are the most capable person alive to manage your money.
2) This stuff isn't rocket science; we all just need to learn together.
3) Being smart about your money can be a lot of fun... really!
4) You can make a fortune doing it.
Reassuring and welcoming to the first-timer!
Some of the other sections that are quite helpful:
Getting Out of Debt - A sound financial advice section that walks anyone with a little debt or an overwhelming amount of debt through the basic steps for relieving yourself from it through careful money management. Advice ranges from people sharing their experiences on the active message boards to the Fool's experts.
Choosing a Broker - Explanations of different kinds of brokers as well as in-depth advice on selecting a discount broker without getting screwed.
Even if you do not access the website, you can check out the Motley Fool through one the brothers' four best-selling finance books or in their newspaper column.
It's free to register and use the site. What have you got to lose except for potentially sound advice and financial gain!
