| tweetyva's Full Review: AOL Financial Message Boards |
I have a love/hate relationship with AOL message boards. Having been on AOL for 4 years the message boards were the one thing I hated to let go when leaving. I have gained a vast amount of information and knowledge from them and even started into a new hobby with the information gathered on them.
I have made some real life friendships and some cyber friendships from there. If you have AOL you should at least adventure to the boards and read some post. Every area on AOL almost has message boards from cooking, Crafting, coupons, genealogy, even help with AOLs different versions 4.0, 5.0, Internet help, and virus help also to collectors of every kind. The ease to use the boards is fairly simple and you are able to set preferences as to how the messages can be listed. Either threaded meaning all of one subject is posted together or unthreaded means there is a list of every individual post. You can also do searches to find keywords in a post, or by date. The boards do have their ""bad"" days when it takes hours upon hours to get the boards to load-System not responding.
The one thing I dislike about the message boards is sometimes you receive a lot of spam from them. That means people scan the boards and harvest names and the next thing you know you email box is full of uninvited guest e-mails. A suggestion for posting emails is to choose a ""message board screen name"" one that use only for the boards of maybe that particular interest. It does help to keep down the unwanted emails on your main account or personal/family accounts.
I would say that I recommend them to anyone in search of general information, helpful hints and tips, or just to share the passion of an interest with many others.
Although many who post on the boards are just normal everyday people, but you can occasionally find some shady characters as well. There are even professional in certain areas that offer advice from pet care, to home schooling, business adventures. It is they typical buyer beware, or poster beware.
As in all aspects of the web one should never reveal personal information to a posting and always air on the side of caution.
