How Fair are ATM Surcharges

Thinking smart

I have read several of the opinions on ATM surcharges and though some may be informative, I find there is information being left out.
Yes, you will pay anywhere between two and three dollars to use an ATM machine that does not belong to your bank. That's the way it should be. Why shouldn't you be loyal to the bank that holds your money?
There are ways to get around the fees. 1) Use your ATM card at the checkout and take out a little more cash. 2) Trade your ATM card in for an ATM debit card. That way you won't need cash for any store because it is just like a credit card. The difference is that it comes out of your checking or savings account and there are no finance charges.

I used to have an ATM card and paid numerous fees and quite frankly was really agitated by it. But then when I went to open a new checking account I asked about the debit cards. I am a lot happier. Sure if I want to go out on the town and don't have the cash on hand then I go to an ATM machine, BUT I go to the one at my bank. No fees there! The rest of time I have no cash. Mostly because I've had my wallet stolen so many times and I got tired of losing the money. Now my money stays safely in the bank and if I need something I just go to the store and use the debit card. No more worries!
