The TJMaxx Rewards Visa credit card is a giving piece of plastic. I have had the card for about 2 years and it not only has gotten out of situations when I didn't have cash, but also for when I didn't have gifts handy to give away.
The card allows the holder to purchase items at Marshalls and TJMaxx and receive 5% back on the purchase amount. In addition, all other charges on the card are accumulated at 1%. This means that as soon as you have accumulated 15$ worth of cash back you will receive by mail a 15$ gift certificate to TJMaxx. The card does not carry any annual fees and has a 15.9% APR. (When I signed up the first 6 billing cycles were at 6.9%) The card also functions as a ATM card, when you send in a 4 digit PIN selection (number) request.
A monthly statement provides you with your charges in addition to indicating the amount towards your gift certificate. I personally have gotten 9 of these gift certificates in the last couple years and have given them away as presents. Its an economic lifesaver for forgotten last minute gifts and takes nothing out of my pocket. In addition the gift certificate allows the receiver to choose what they want, instead of the giver choosing for them. The gift certificate acts just like any other gift certificate that you would give to friends and family, so you don't have to worry about the recipient being given a hard time about redeeming the certificate. The certificates are valid for 2 years from the time that they are earned, and when you first sign up for the card you get a "free" 15$ certificate as a courtesy. What can be better than that.
Hopefully, someday I will be able to redeem one for myself...but in the meantime, it is a handy solution for what to give those special people.
