Credit Unions surpass banks

I live in a small town outside of Albany, NY. While I was growing up I always kept my money in the bank. I never had a real problem because I never had many transactions. Then as I was preparing for college I began to need more and more of my money from the bank. One day I went to withdraw money from my account to pay a bill. When the teller tried to call up my account it would not let her. It said that my account was locked. I was in shock, I had my money with this institution for about 10 years and now they would not let me withdraw. When I spoke with the manager she told me that because there had been no activity in my account for 6 months they locked it.

This did not make me happy. To unlock my account I had to go home call some 800 number and spend an hour on the phone with a service agent. After going through all this, my account was still not opened. I had enough with this bank, I preceded to put my money into a credit union, I was able to do this because my dad had an account at one. At the Credit Union, I was getting better interest and better service.

The other feature that I do not like about banks is the ridiculous surcharge I get when I try to use there ATM. Just because I am not a member of there bank I get charged $1.50. What ever happened to customer service? I think that if you want to keep your money in an institution most beneficial to yourself go to a credit union, you will not unsastified.
