Been there for 3 years, but...

I've been with E*Trade for 3 years but I've been considering leaving. I joined them because they were the biggest online service at the time. Joining was simple enough - fill out the form, send in a check and wait, and wait, and wait. Calling customer service indicated the account had been set up 2 weeks before. Since I hadn't received their "start trading kit" the password had to be changed because THEY didn't know what they gave me.
I opened this account because the fees were so much less than giving hundreds to a stock broker who bought and sold what I told him. $14.95 has only been charged 1 time, $19.95 is the amount because I always use "limit orders." There are brokers who charge less for this service. Trades are not always executed fast, moving around their "improved" website is a nightmare, and customer service is slow.
The only good thing about them is that you can put in orders to buy and sell without having to be online the entire day. But this is also available at the other online services also. After hours trading is limited to quantities of 100.
"Real time quotes" should be available to EVERYONE and not just the frequent traders. I learn more and have more access to information on Yahoo and Excite than with E*Trade.
Well, this review has just about convinced me to sell everything, take the money and run to another service.
