I had a version of #4 happen to me (Reply to this comment)
by Rose66
but the credit card company changed my address without my telling them to and I never got my statement which had a charge for four tires for my husband's car on it. Three months later, the credit card company calls me, asking about the late payment. I managed to finagle myself out of ALL late charges AND finance charges, but they did raise my rate of interest. They lost me as a customer because I simply paid it off, canceled it and was happy to become a new customer with a better company!
You make a lot of sense here regarding credit cards! Your review should be required reading for everyone who is getting their first credit cards!! Tina

Wow,the part about $10.00 cash advances that actually cost $21.00!! No wonder!.I have at least $32,000 in credit card debt and I am trying to pay it off.I have cut most of them up.I vow never to apply again - until next week at least!!(very much a joke people). It is very addictive and too handy.
I think your opinion was very eye-opening and I will take in to consideration the helpful tips.Thank-You!

Absolute best advice I've heard (Reply to this comment)
by Wynell
Having my own credit ordeal I always pay attention when I hear advice. Your epinion was well written, well educated, and well worth it. You really took the time to explain and expand on the run-of-the-mill advice most people post.
I have a very small list of trusted members you are definately a part of it from now on.

Me too, I have been there done that! Imagine this: Property tax, home/auto insurance, flood insurance and other bills all came due this month. Oh, man, how I wish money grew on trees!
Very informative review!

Re: Statements? (Reply to this comment)

Beware. Cutting up the cards does not close the account. Be sure you contact the Creditors and let them know that you would like the account closed.
Also, tell them you would like "closed at the request of the account holder" noted in your credit file.
Thanks for reading :),

Ugh...I had that rude awakening early this week. I went through my wallet and cut up all those store cards that I only opened because I could get 10 or 15% off, or some cheesy little trinket that wasn't worth the cost of having the card in the first place!!
Thanks netKat for lending your insight.

...how people just go plastic-crazy and never - for even a second think of what it'll do to them in the future...it's really sad, but ignorance is never bliss. I know this review will keep atleast a few people from getting burned. Excellent job!

Statements? (Reply to this comment)
by pogomom
You mean I have to pay all this back?
Guilty of holding more credit cards than any one person needs or should have, your reviews served as a wake up call. I just went through my spare wallets and discovered I have cards for the sake of having cards. Not too bright and a bummer were I to need some emergency credit at some future time. The chances of being turned down for having too many cards is pretty great.
Thanks for the rude awakening (thou art never rude, my darling pal) and for the outstanding review.

Netkat, you are saving me more than you could ever know! Last year I was over 13,000 dollars in debt. I made a commitment to myself to get totally out of debt, including cars. At this point in time, I am only 7,000 dollars in debt. One year and I'm half way there. It seems like every time I start to lose my will power, you write a finance review. I can't thank you enough. Please keep them coming. Annah

Great Info. (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for a informative review in easy-to-understand language. You should write the 'terms' on these credit card agreements. Would make much more sense than they do now.
Great Review!

Great topic, (Reply to this comment)
by Annie_Crane
All of the young adults need to be informed of this before they jeopardize their future with credit. It does not just happen to older adults. I was working for the first time at fifteen, by eighteen I had established my own credit (with the help of my parents). From there I was responsible for so much that it was pulling me down financially, socially and mentally. Be prepared when you take that step!
Great job!
