| photogal's Full Review: SmartMoney |
This is one of my many financial bookmarks, mainly for the profiles it offers of mutual funds and stocks. It offers a one-page snapshot of useful information with tabs to access further info like analyst recommendations. I do find it helpful when researching stocks. For instance, it will show you the stock you are investigating ranked against several competitors. Many of their graphs are interactive, so you can easily tweak what you are viewing.
This site is big on bar graphs and visual tools. If you like that kind of presentation, great. I've tried some of the planning tools for investment allocation and estate planning. They are visual and interactive, but in the end didn't help me. It was more like playing with a new toy that looked promising, but didn't hold my attention. I've never taken the time to try to figure out their exclusive "map of the market" except to know that a lot of red is bad.
I like having a lot of information available when I make financial decisions, so SmartMoney will remain one of my resources for basic research. It is also one of the few sites with an area dedicated to bonds. Other sites are stronger in certain areas, but this is a solid general financial site.
