E-file and get your refund faster
Mar 30 '00
E-filing has really been around for several years now, I remember 10 years ago, I had a friend who e-filed his return and I thought what a waste of money just to get your refund a few weeks earlier. Things have sure changed in the last 10 years, back then it cost around $50.00 to e-file your returns, this year I spent just under $15.00 to e-file my state and federal taxes.
I used turbo tax to prepare my return and then just e-filed when I was done. It took me about 10 days to get my state refund back, in fact I had my return back before I had sent in the one paper you have to sign and mail to them. I haven't received my federal yet, but I only filed 2 weeks ago, when I filed it said my return should be back by March 31, 2000, but they couldn't promise that.
I had trouble with my Social Security Number this year, I had never changed it to my married name, with e-filing this was found out right off, I new the next day that my return was not accepted and told what I needed to do for them to accept it. If I would have mailed in my return, who knows how long it would have taken me to find out I needed to change my name, plus it took about 4 weeks for me to get my name switched, a new card and have them accept my return.
