Just out of graduate school, I don't know what possessed me to go out and buy a townhouse, but I figured that the tax benefits and extra space (my parent's house was getting a little crowded), I should just go ahead and try doing it.
The homebuilder that I bought my townhouse from happened to use Norwest Mortgage, which was fine with me, because I didn't know any better. Basically, I blinded went along with it, and I have been very pleased with the service that they provide.
First of all, they are very prompt at sending out mortgage notices. I have never had any problems getting my payments in on time, simply because they are extremely consistent in sending me my payment stubs.
In addition, their customer service people are very pleasant. One time, I accidentally put the payment amount under "extra principal". Needless to say, I was surprised later on to find that I was charged a late fee. I quickly called up their customer service department, and they found the source of the problem immediately. No call backs, no phone tag. And on top of that, they were very pleasant and retracted the late payment fee!
Another thing that pleased me was a mistake I had made with property taxes. I had totally forgotten that I requested that the property taxes be included in my mortgage payments. So when the state sent me my property tax stubs, I went ahead and paid them off. Norwest caught the error, and sent me a refund check for the extra property taxes I had paid! That was sure a surprise, and a nice one at that.
So overall, I'm very pleased with Norwest Mortgage, and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them again in the future. They also deal with online banking and investing, maybe that's something to look at, too. =)
