Best Secured Credit Card Deals

Sep 29 '00

I spent some time four years back researching every available secured credit card. I've kept up with what's what and who's who in the field since, and two companies continue to stand out: CapitalOne and Orchard National Bank.

Both have reasonable deposit requirements, and each gives two to three times (or sometimes 3-1/2 times) your deposit in credit.

CapitalOne provides the highest multiple of your deposit for credit of ANY secured card company--up to 3-1/2 times during certain promotions, in appears. Orchard will go double. (If you get mailings from these companies, don't respond to the first. Wait for the second or third mailing, as these offer higher multiples.)

Also, CapitalOne is very quick to offer a non-secured card. After a little over a year, you can get a card with a $1,000 credit limit.

Both cards eventually refund your deposit, AND pay interest (deposited into your account). Highly recommended!
