Pros: durable, cool design Cons: sports games take up the whole memory card
Summary: The first thing that I realized I’d need for my Dreamcast, was a memory card. I mean what’s the use to playing a game, getting really far, and then having to quit and start all over again when you play next due to the fact that you don’t have a memory ... read more

Pros: LCD screen, you can put mini-games onto it from certain games. Cons: Not many games have mini-games, very little battery power.
Summary: Hmm, the idea and concept was awesome, the execution was acceptable, the acceptance, though? Awful.
This was a very nice idea. However, Sega should have thought alot more before executing this idea and making it a reality.
This is ... read more

Pros: Contains screen needed for sub-quest games Cons: Battery eater, inadequate amount of memory for Dreamcast games
Summary: This VMU is licenced by Sega, and I believe, is a marketing tactic. Assuming you're a Dreamcast newcomer since you're reading the review on this product, I'd like to let you know that Dreamcast games take from 10 to around 35 blocks per game, and many ... read more

Pros: No dreamcast need for it, Mini Games, Trade files w/o dreamcast... Cons: Low battery life, buttons are small, would u look at it while playing a game?
Summary: This idea is once again ANOTHER prospect of the Sega Dreamcast. Sega has outdone themselves with this system. Anyway, the VMU is an original idea that self indulges itself in its screen. Playing a game on a memory card? Yea, i know sounds crazy, but its ... read more

Pros: Excellent at protecting saved files Cons: Terrible at battery conservation
Summary: I'll make this short, sweet & to the point.
The LCD screen on the VMU is a nice gadget, but that is about as far as it goes. Granted, you CAN play mini-games on it, but they make gameboy games from 1990 look high tech.
The only other use of the ... read more

Pros: wide variety of colors, the cool mini screen Cons: weak battery
Summary: When the sega dreamcast was released, it released the vmu (visual memory unit) along with it. The vmu is a memory card with a capacity of 200 blocks, and of course a screen. This was something new and different to the gaming world, something new and ... read more

Pros: You can do more then just save games. Cons: Short battery life, cap easily lost.
Summary: It seems with every new system being released nowadays a memory card (or Visual Memory Unit [V.M.U] in this case) is a standard accessory needed to save certain levels, missions, positions etc.
The Dreamcasts V.M.U is a small memory card which ... read more

Pros: small Cons: little memory space, expensive
Summary: A dandy little invention from Sega is the Visual Memory Unit (VMU). This things looks like a miniature Game Boy a fits upside down into the first socket of a Dreamcast controller.
The thing is handy, especially for sports games since you can ... read more

Pros: A well-rounded and fair price, it's economically viable Cons: The guzzler of LC2032 batteries it is! The VMU is really just gratuitous
Summary: (Just to make it clear, I will break-down specific areas in letting you know directly what's powerful and what's weak about Sega's own Visual Memory Unit).
DESIGN: (How does it look?) C+/C
Sega's in-house designed Visual Memory Unit ... read more

Pros: Data can be accessed without console, plays mini-games, links to other VMU's Cons: Drains batteries quickly.
Summary: With any gaming console that uses CD's as opposed to cartridges, external data storage is a neccessity. The first stand-alone console to use CD's, the Sega Saturn, had internal memory, but the popular Playstation used small memory cards instead. Sega ... read more

Pros: Good data integrity, cool extra features, screen adds to gameplay Cons: Short battery life, small memory capacity, a bit expensive
Summary: When I initially got my Dreamcast, I didn't get a Visual Memory Unit (VMU) or any other memory card. After about a week of having every game that I attempted to play inform me that I didn't have a VMU installed, I broke down and got one. It's a ... read more

Pros: Mini-game, viewable data, screen for controller, 200 blocks, etc... Cons: If you play Mini-Games alot: Quick Battery Death
Summary: Meet the VMU. It means Visual Memory Unit. This is one of the coolest features of SEGA's god DREAMCAST. This little monochrome LCD has more potential in it's games then some games in a console's library. This thing stores 200 Blocks of memory, and can ... read more

Pros: screen for viewing animatiom Cons: battery goes dead and is hard to find another battery
Summary: The SEGA Dreamcast VMU (Visual Memory Unit) has been on the SEGA Dreamcast since the very beginning in 9.9.99. The main thing that attracted buyers was that it had a little viewing screen on the interface of it. This is used to play games downloaded off ... read more

Pros: LCD Screen, Portable and the mini games Cons: Batteries
Summary: It's much more than a memory card.
You can take parts of the game with you wherever you go: Download game characters to the VMU and train them while on the bus; play standalone VMU-specific games in the car; connect to another VMU to trade files or ... read more
