    Oct 09 '01
    Pros: Many fun games.
Cons: You need a TurboTap for more than 1 player.

Summary: So much nostalgia. So many memories. So many bad games and rip-offs that I never realized were bad games and rip-offs at the age of ten. The TurboGrafx 16 was my first home gaming system. My parents bought it for me because they were too cheap to get me ... read more

  • It once bombed, but now every gamer wants one....weird...

Pros: The duo rocks. It has many of the best games ever made.
Cons: Bonk really sucks. Don't buy this system for bonk :)

Summary: Actually, it's not strange at all. The turbografx, also known as pc-engine in japan, was a little 8-bit system that never really had a chance in the state. Everyone and there momma had a nes, and the Genesis was kicking off the 16-bit revolution with ... read more

  • The best looking 8-bit game system ever, just not 16-bit

Pros: Military Madness, R Type, Bonk's Revenge, and Super Star Soldier!
Cons: Darkwing Duck, Falcon, Ghost Manor, and Samurai Ghost.

Summary: NEC is not only a huge electronic company but they also created their own video game system back in the day. The NEC PC Engine was a huge hit over in Japan (it even beat out the mega popular Japanese NES in sales for a few years) and it ... read more

Pros: Bonk has been spotted on numerous systems.
Cons: NEC just gave up on the system.

Summary: Back in the mid 80's came a system that was too good to be true. The sleek exterior held a beast within. The Turbo-Grafx 16 was quite a work of art. NEC created a game system that had poor U.S. sales during the last year of it's retirement ... read more

  • Great As A Frisbee Now

    Jan 04 '01
Pros: Little game cartridges, compatible with portable system
Cons: not many games, games not that great

Summary: My friend Brad got this system around 1988 I think, and while it was fun for a while, it quickly grew out of date. You have to take into account that this came out in the days of the original Nintendo and Sega which were both 8 bit systems, and this was ... read more

  • The slickest system of the eighties

    Jan 04 '01
Pros: Small and attractive with great graphics and good sound, as well as a number of great titles
Cons: Can be somewhat expensive, and it can be difficult to locate games, accessories, or whatnot

Summary: It's really a shame NEC doesn't know more about pricing, because the Turbo Grafx was truly a great system. It's an 8 bit system with 16 bit graphics, which led NEC to tout it as a 16 bit system. While they were lying, it's still a wonderful little ... read more

    Pros: nice graphics, good games
    Cons: wasnt popular enough

Summary: I played with this system for 2 years when I was in college. It is a very nice and fun machine and I am currently looking to buy one cheap. It was part of the 16 bit revolution, but this system is actually 2 separate 8 bit processors working ... read more

  • TurboGrafx16: More Bonk Than Bite!

    Aug 18 '00
Pros: Colorful graphics; excellent series including Bonk and Ys
Cons: Not enough games or software support

Summary: NEC released the TurboGrafx 16 in the United States in 1988 in order to try and grab their piece of the growing home video gaming market, which was then dominated by Nintendo. Starting out with a fairly generic platform game called "Keith Courage in ... read more

  • Turbo is great, love the system....

    Dec 19 '05
Pros: Good games, 1st cd system to come out. Turbo express is fantastic.
Cons: Nintendo was out. This was an edgy alternative. It's underrated.

Summary: I went nuts when I got this system early one Christmas. So much so, that I opened it (and Alien Crush) before Christmas and played it for 2 hours until I got caught by mom. The graphx were a step or 3 ahead of the grainy nintendo graphx. The games are
