My family has gotten many hours of enjoyment from our Nintendo NES. We have had it for many years, and the entire family enjoys playing games on it. I think that it is great that there are such a large variety of games available for the Nintendo NES that there is surely something to please every type of gamer.
My personal favorites are the role playing games (RPGs) like Zelda, Link, Ultima, and similar RPGs. The kids enjoy the RPGs too, but also enjoy the action games such as Mario Bros, and racing games.
There are also games of skill like Duck Hunt and Tetris, as well as learning games for the kids ranging from Sesame Street to trivia type games such as Jeopardy that simulates the game show and can be fun for the family to play together.
Even when the Super NES came out, we did not stop playing our Nintendo NES. I prefer the old style because of it's ease of use. Maybe it's just because I'm used to this one, but it was difficult for me to switch to the new one because the controls were so much different.
We have two of the Nintendo NES consoles, though they don't get quite as much use as they used to. They are great when the kids want to play a game while I'm on my computer, which is much of the time. I enjoy it too though, but not as often as before since I just don't have the time for it.
The controllers have a 4 directional arrow button, and 2 other buttons which are generally a shoot and a jump button, or something similar depending on the game you are playing. There is also a start button and a select button on the controller. The controls are pretty simple to learn and are easily picked up by even small children.
