| mikep850's Full Review: SSX for PlayStation 2 |
SSX is by far the cocaine of video games. It is easy to pick up on, and after the first ten minutes of playing, you will want to play for ten hours. When I purchased the game, I didn't realize that I would have to have such discipline. Not playing it, but from not playing it.
Like any other game, the first time you play SSX, you suck. But once you figure it out, you will be set for hours. The hardest part to figure out is when to release the jump button. You hold it, and then release it just before the top of the ramp or hill to get maximum height. Once air born, the only thing you have to do is hold a combination of the top four L and R buttons to do tricks. It is fun just inventing new tricks and seeing how many points you can get from a single jump.
I can not stress just how addicting this game is. A combination of riders and courses revealed as you get better enables you to play for hours on end. When you sit down to play SSX, make sure that you have nothing else better to do, because if it's not done before you start playing, it's not likely to get done.
The graphics for SSX are of course great. I mean this is the PS2 remember? I enjoy the sound effects too. You can hear your rider get down on himself after he wipes out or doesn't land a trick. Such as "I got to stop doing that!" Also the *tink* and *donk* you hear every time your rider smacks into something they shouldn't.
Without a doubt, this game is going to make it hard to keep my grades up. I may have someone hide it from me...then again, probably not. When you buy this game, keep in mind what is to come. Endless hours of pure snowboarding enjoyment. But also remember how many hours are in the day, and when you buy this game you will spend far too many of them in front of SSX.
