| Trouto's Full Review: Rainbow Six: Covert Ops |
Initially, I thought of bagging this game in my review, due to the total lack of originality. But then I thought "I am reviewing the game, not the fact that this is identical to its predicessors". So to forewarn you, I am disapointed that Rainbow Six: Covert Ops is like Rouge Spear and Rainbow Six, but I really like the game.
I guess I can review the actual game, for thoes who are unfarmiliar with the other two games. Rainbow Six: Covert Ops is a real time tactical game, where you are a group of mercenaries who are guns for hire in the modern world. No job is too tough for your squad, and missions are aplenty (Although in Rainbow Six: Covert Ops missions are a little limited!!). The game starts at mission briefing, wher you get a low-down of the mission. You then proceed to choose your team from a large databank, and equip them with armour, guns and other gear needed on your particular mission. The range of equiptment is fantastic, with most of the modern firearms available. You then need to set up tactical manovers for your team. This can be a little daunting at first, so untill you are farmiliar with the game, take what the computer sets out for you. The mission then starts, and the killing begins.
The graphics and sound in Rainbow Six: Covert Ops is of the highest quality, which is to be expected of such a successful game. The animation of the scenario make the gaming really enjoyable. Oh, and by the way, don't think thay hiding behind curtains and leaves you are safe. The provide NO protection, I found that out the hard way!
What I really like about these types of games is the realism. Unlike 'Doom' and 'Quake', a single bullet can kill you. Not always, but often!! My particular favorite gun is the PSV sniper rifle. With only 5 bullets to a clip, you have to make them last. But one shot from this baby, and is "Lights Out"!! The range on the scope is amazing.
Rainbow Six: Covert Ops is really only a few missions, unlike its predicessors, which had around twenty in a game. The difference comes in the difficulty. These missions are REALLY hard. I would suggest that if you havent played Rouge Spear or Rainbow Six, don't buy this game untill you have played them! Rainbow Six: Covert Ops is a sequel aimed at providing challenges for expert assassins.
Rainbow Six: Covert Ops is also a great multi player game. LAN'ers will appreciate the many scenario's available, all which are specifically designed for multi user games. I am sure this game is a hit over the net, but I am yet to try. Give it a go. Its not much different to the others, but the missions are quite hard.
