This game is easy to play, tough to master. The set up for the controls is really easy to get used to and to operate. A lot of the functions are close together physically making it easier than some games I have played on 64 to execute multiple functions, like aiming, zooming, firing, and ducking back behind something to avoid return fire, all at once. Zoom only comes on with certain weapons, but is very useful when it does, especially with some of the bigger, longer range weapons like the AR-33 and the 'AK'. The vibes from the rumble pak on this game aren't just a string of severe vibration, it seems it is far more subtle than many games out there. There is a noticable difference in the vibe from Zig as opposed to the RCP.
There are so many levels, replaying levels you've already cleared out is always exciting; there is always something you forget or something that catches you by surprise. Each level has its own tough identity as well. On 'Train' getting her to come out w/ you sometimes is irritatingly difficult, but worth another go even if Nat dies. On 'Aztec', especially on the third difficulty level, Jaws is a real pain to get by. Don't even get me started about 'Egyptian"!! If you have passed this level with all the setting at their top (but still allowing them to take damage), you are truly a Bond Expert!! All in all, each level is challenging in its own way. I have favorites, but I often sit down and start from the beginning just for giggles.
The selection of weapons is delicious! My favorites are the AR-33 and the RCP-90, for obvious reasons. 2, 3, and 4 way play is the thing to do! Without a doubt, this is the best #@%&-your-buddy game ever. Playing teams is just as exciting. Some levels are ideal for group play; 'Complex' is a MASSIVE level. When it comes to group play, I am a fan of 'Library', 'Facility', and definitely 'Temple' using power weapons, remote mines, and grenade launchers respectively. The amount you must hit people is entirely dependant on the weapon used. The AR-33 is a one shot gun, however, even if you get in a head shot, don't expect one round from a Klobb to get the job done. Even if you have an AR-33, blue berets are VERY hard to take down. I have witnessed friends drop entire magazines into these guys and they just keep coming.
The AI in this game is outstanding. As one progresses thru the levels and moves past agent status, making too much noise is not a good thing. In the top status, often times anything more than a single shot to the head will bring an army to you. You hear the guards cough, you can sneak up on them as they scratch their butt. Very realistic. Limb shots only eat ammo. Unlike the majority of games out there a shot ISN'T just a shot. It depends on where you hit the guard as to whether or not they go right down. A limb shot only slows down the one you shot temporarily, meanwhile all his friends are on the way.
This game is very graphic. People can squirm, convulse, and die slowly. Neck shots are particularly nasty. I know some people I would never recommend this game to. Kids under 16 or so might not be ideal candidates for this one. I am not offended or disturbed by this game. I do not misinterpret the goal of this game (entertainment) and think about putting on a black trenchcoat. . . .you see where I am going. The reality is, what is on the evening news could be seen as more graphic than this game, but people who hold that attitude at all probably shouldn't buy ANY fighting game.
Those of us who are right in the head will love this game. It is a standby when you feel like you've played everything else. It is a standard by which other games are compared. It is the best game ever produced for Nintendo. Another win for Rareware!!
