Once again NHL Faceoff and NHL 2000 are going at it. The NHL Faceoff has been a solid series but always falls second the NHL series by EA Sports. NHL Faceoff is a simulation game that is fun but isn’t enough to beat out NHL 2000.
The good thing about NHL Faceoff 2000 is that the games aren’t as high scoring in NHL 2000. Scores are like 2-0 rather than 7-0 in NHL 2000. This will please many hockey fans that like realistic games. There are a lot of features. You can trade players, fight, play a season, etc.
The bad news is the game has a jerky feel to it. The players don’t seem to move naturally and the players seem to glide rather than skate over the ice. The action is better than last years was but still has a long way to go. The controls are solid but there is nothing new. Analog support makes controlling players easy and the checking moves are decent. In the end the controls are basic.
NHL Faceoff 2000 has some nice visuals. The stadiums are detailed and there are celebrations when you score a hat trick. The players look sharp. When they start moving they become choppy and twitchy. The audio sucks. Why did they have to choose Darren Pang to be the announcer. He is annoying and boring. The sound effects are decent but could have been a lot better. When compared to NHL 2000, NHL Faceoff 2000 looks bad. The only way you can choose this game is if you hate high scoring games and like slow paced boring games.
