Learn about the modes

Dec 07 '00

WWF No Mercy has many modes to use for matches. APOLOGY: I understand this space is supposed to be for WWF 2000. However, for WWF No Mercy, I couldn't find any space for general tips, so I put it here (WWF 2000 is the most similar to No Mercy). All of them are fun, in their own respective ways.

Here are basic descriptions of the major modes:
1. WWF Royal Rumble
Select anywhere from 4 to 40 wrestlers, in increments of 4 (4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, or 40), to participate in the Royal Rumble. It starts with 4, and after one is eliminated, another comes up. The last one standing wins. Possible ways for elimination include pinfall, submission, knockout, and getting knocked off the apron.

2. King of the Ring
Select anywhere from 2 to 16 wrestlers or teams. They will go in a tournament, where a single loss will eliminate a wrestler (or team). The winner of the final match is declared the King of the Ring.

3. Guest Referee
You get to become a referee. Whether it's a one-on-one, tag team, triple threat, or handicap [2 on 1] match, you get to decide how fast or slow you want to pin. Yes, you can get in the action, too. Press C-left near the pinfall attempt pins, and it starts the count for count-outs, too.

4. Ladder Match
The object of a ladder match is to reach the top of the ladder, and get the hanging "treasure." In a championship match, you want to get the belt, above the top of the ladder. But, it's not so easy. The ladder can be used as a weapon. You can get knocked off, when climbing the ladder.

5. Ironman Match
This is the most brutal match on the human body. At the beginning of the match, there's a set time limit. The person with the most "wins" by pinfalls, submissions, knockouts, and countouts, simply wins. There are no breaks during the match.

6. Exhibition Matches
These are the "normal modes." There are the single match, tag match, triple threat match, and handicap matches.
A: Single Match
This is a one-on-one match. You can set rules on how a wrestler can and can't win, and if interference is allowed.
B: Tag Match
This is a two-on-two match. You can set if tags are required (if not, then all 4 wrestlers can stay in the ring), and other rules.
C: Triple Threat
Three wrestlers wrestle each other. There are no official teams, though two wrestlers can double-team the other.
D: Handicap
Here, one wrestler is outnumbered. Here, an expert can be challenged by more than one novice at a time. Whether it's 2 or 3 wrestlers on that one, it can sure make things interesting.

7. Career Mode(s)
In Career mode, you get to choose a wrestler, and a belt to go after. The storyline changes, depending on each win or loss. When you complete a certain portion of a mode, you can get money for the Smackdown Mall, depending on how well you do.
Here are some [NOT ALL] of the belts to go after, and how to get one secret belt:
A: WWF title
B: Intercontinental title
C: Light-heavyweight title
D: Women's title
E: European title
F: Smoking Skull belt - Successfully complete championship mode with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to unlock the Smoking Skull belt.

8. Smackdown Mall - to be done later
You can buy weapons, clothes, moves, wrestlers, and other items here. They cost a certain amount of money, earned from the career modes, and the Survival mode. I found prices to range from $500 to $100,000.

9. Survival
There's a mode (on "Single Player") like the Royal Rumble, but you have to eliminate as many people as possible. It ends when you're eliminated.

Depending on the number of wrestlers you beat (and possibly how you beat them), you get money for the Smackdown Mall. If you eliminate enough people, you can unlock wrestlers, and here they are:
Wrestler Number of opponents needed to beat
Jerry Lawler: 21
Shane McMahon: 31
Mae Young: 41
Cactus Jack: 51
Ken Shamrock: 61
Mick Foley: 71
Vince McMahon: 81
Shawn Michaels: 91
Andre The Giant: 101
