It evolves into WHAT?

As the potential future "parent" of my grand niece, (she's 15 months old right now) I can only hope that Pokemon will stay confined to television, games and playing cards or that it will die out before she is of an age to get caught up in it.
These little monsters (called Pocket Monsters at first) are quite adorable, and there are worse things out on the market that a child could become a fan of.
It was my boss who infected both my co-worker and myself with this show. She started watching the cartoon, buying the games, the figures, and all the other stuff that has sprung up on the market over the past could of years. I suppose my downfall was when I bought her the Pokemon Deluxe Card Game set for Christmas, then I wanted to see what the cards actually looked like because I play the BattleTech card game that is produced by the same company (Wizards of the Coast). Big mistake, I should have just let it go.
Now I will catch myself watching the two or three cartoons on Saturday mornings (instead of changing channels) while waiting for the show I like to watch and I have even gone so far as to hunt up some of the game emulators for my PC to play the old games with. I haven't seen the movie (yet) and I haven't actually spent any real money on the products except for that one gift I bought her. But I have invested many hours in watching the shows and playing the games on my computer when I could be doing something more constructive.
Even though I feel guilty about wasting my time in this manner, I have to admit that the both the show and the games have some real value to them. They are well done, they teach good thinking skills, and promote the belief in one's own abilities in a way that few of the newer (past five years or so) children's programs do. This is a "feel good" type thing and I will more than likely wind up buying the video collection for my grand niece to watch once she moves in with me. Not to mention that I want to see it myself without all the horrible commercials that seem to be aimed at destroying children's sense of respect for adults.
If you have the chance to preview this for your children, I would say that you should. Granted, some of the characters are poorly done (they could have done much better with Team Rocket), but what children's show ever does anything right? Also you have to remember that this is a show from Japan, where the humor is based on something completely different from what America finds funny.
